Berkshire School Games at Wellington
College
Wednesday 3rd July 2013
Quad Kids Athletics
Our Year 7 Boys’ Team qualified for the Berkshire School
Games. The boys all performed exceptionally well, some winning some of the
events easily. Joshua Ekundayo finished 1st in 800m and 1st
in 100m with a time of 13.8 seconds. As a team they narrowly missed out on 3rd
place overall. All athletes performed exceptionally well, well done!
Boccia
We were also lucky enough to qualify 2 Boccia teams to
the finals to represent Slough, who finished in 1st and 2nd
position at the School Games Finals. This is an outstanding achievement and
they were an asset to the school on the day, well done!
Quad Kids Event
We took 10 Year 7 students to Herschel Grammar School to
participate in the Slough Schools Quad Kids Event. All students completed 100m,
long jump, 800m and a howler throw. Joshua

was 3rd best overall female performer. The Boy’s Team who
finished 4th overall at the Slough Quad Kids Athletics Event

Azim) and the Year 7 Girl’s Team who finished 5th overall
(Elle Munt, Saba Khan, Rumundeep Dhesi, Vanessa Kuvanega and Claire Rodhouse).
Rugby Scholars Programme
We have had excellent success with five of our students
(Kaselle Lee, Jacob Brown, Jake Cossington, Kieran Harris Brewer-Wright and
Kyron Lee) being selected to join the SSSN Rugby Scholars programme, which
could hopefully lead on to them being very successful members of both school
and county rugby teams in the future.
Slough School Sports Network Trampolining Competition
We took a total of 21 students to compete in the competition and achieved some excellent results. We had some outstanding performances from Lauren Bown (Novice Category for Year 7 and 8), Sophie Sullivan (Novice category for Year 9, 10 and 11), Emma Green (Elite Category for Year 7 and 8) and Lily Targett (Elite Category for Year 9, 10 and 11) who won their categories. We also achieved a silver medal in the Next Steps Category by Elle Wilson and four other places were secured by Holly Bressington, Maria Balsam, Aimee Way and Chloe Boyce all competing in the Elite Category for County Competition representing Slough .
Our Year 7 and 8 Team
New Age Kurling
Competition
29th
January 2013
We were lucky enough to be able to take
two full teams to the New Age Kurling event held by the School Sports Network
at Montem Leisure Centre. All who competed were great ambassadors for the
school.
We were fortunate enough to get to the
final with one of our teams (consisting of Pri
Kangarasa, Ziyad Ali, Tayler Lawrence and Suleman Ijaz) where we finished a
very close second. Our other team were very strong competitors in their pool,
winning several of their games, but narrowly missing out on the final play offs
(Team B – consisting of Patrick Sheriff, Daniel Grove, Harry Grove, Lucas
Humfreys). Well done to all who took part!
Visit from Ian Rose
On Thursday 29th November a group of students
were invited to do a workshop with former Paralympic athlete Ian Rose. The workshop
was about building the power of people to overcome challenges. We talked about
our goals: what we wanted to achieve in life and the challenges that stood in
the way of these goals. We had to put a blindfold on and trust our partners, so
as a team we could draw different shapes, but relying purely on a description
rather than our sight. We talked about our actions for the future and the steps
we needed to take towards those actions and the dates by which they had to be
completed. In the assembly Ian talked about his struggles with his own
disability in his life and how he overcame those struggles to become world
champion and Paralympic champion. He impressed upon us that we should not
settle for what we’ve got, but try to get more out of life. Overall it was a
good afternoon and it taught me as an athlete that I can overcome any obstacle
life throws at me.

Sports Hall Athletics
We took a team of 8 girls and 8 boys in Year 8 to compete against 12 other schools in Slough. We were pipped to the post on points by St Bernards who finished narrowly ahead of us to take first place. All students were excellent ambassadors for the school. Well done on your silver medals!
Boccia Competition
6 Physically Impaired students
from years 9-11 entered a level 2 competition at Montem hosted by Slough School Sport Network. We played 5 teams each, coming 4th and 2nd overall. We shall
therefore be sending a team to the next round representing Slough. Well Done to all involved!
