I wanted to be a Sports Ambassador to promote sports within
the Olympic Program, to get more kids in school involved in Olympic Sports
rather than the traditional sports. It is good for kids to try out different
sports because they may enjoy them and want to learn them. Kids of this generation need to become more
active and have a healthier lifestyle so I want to help get more kids into
sport and to stop being lazy, of course education is important but to have
sport alongside that would be most beneficial.
I have become 2x British Championship in the year 2011 and
the current year; I am also part of the Great Britain Talent Squad which I have
been part of for over a year and I have represented Great Britain at
international competitions including Latvia and Lithuania. I am also 5x
Southern Region Champion and silver medallist in the English Championships
2011.
My aim is to carry on with my wrestling throughout my
education and to carry on after my education as well.

I wanted to
be a young sports ambassador as I have a keen interest in a range of sports and
I feel that by becoming a young ambassador I will gain more knowledge about
these sports. I have been doing a fair amount of coaching in classes in the
lower school and have built a good rapport with these students. I feel that
this will help me with the role as it means that students can talk to me if
they have any issues with sport. I wanted to be a young sports ambassador as I
understand that it is a good opportunity to get more experience in becoming a
better sports leader which is something I am interested in.
My main sport is shotokan karate which is something I have been doing in excess of 6 years now and would like to take further to become an instructor when I turn 18. I gained my 1st dan (black belt) at age 13 after over four years of training, two years later I gained my 2nd dan. My twin brother and I have both done this and we are now the youngest participants in our club to have passed the 2nd dan grading. I currently do a lot of teaching on a weekly basis with the lower grades in my club showing them the basic techniques which they need to master in order to pass their next grading. I also enjoy participating in other sports such as table tennis, trampolining and kayaking all of which I have gained experience in with the school. I have gained two qualifications in badminton and table tennis with the school which I can now use. I also have an additional CSLA (community sports leader’s award) which has helped me gain more experience with coaching.
I would like to run an after school karate session once a week for other students and even teachers if they are free to come. This will enable them to gain a better understanding of what karate is about, gain some experience in the sport from a personal perspective I feel that karate has helped me to become a better sporting. Learning some basic techniques is a good experience and a sometimes useful skill to have. This is a picture of me doing a basic punch at a training camp:
